2023 Pinot Noir: The Pursuit of Excellence
At Barons Creek Vineyards, we don’t settle for anything less than exceptional. When we set out to create our 2023 Pinot Noir, we knew we needed the best of the best-the finest fruit, from the finest vineyards, crafted by one the most brilliant minds in winemaking today.
That’s why we partnered with Caroline Davis of Pisoni Vineyards, a winemaker whose passion, expertise, and scientific precision make her a true master of Pinot Noir.
Why Pisoni? Why Caroline?
Pinot Noir is known as the heartbreaker grape-delicate, unpredictable, and demanding the perfect conditions to reach its full potential. Few places in the world can nurture this grape the Santa Lucia Highlands does, and even fewer winemakers can elevate it the way Caroline Davis can.
Caroline’s journey into the wine was fueled by a love of science. As a child, she was captivated by space and astronomy, but during her studies in Biology at Ponoma College, she discovered something equally fascinating-the science of wine. This newfound passion led her to UC Davis, where she earned her Master’s in Viticulture and Enology and immersed herself in the intricate chemistry of winemaking.
At Pisoni Vineyards, Caroline wears many hats-carefully selecting clients, managing operations, leading laboratory development, and overseeing the entire winemaking process with precision and care. It’s this deep understanding of both science and artistry that made her the perfect partner for Barons Creek Vineyards as we crafted our 2023 Pinot Noir.
The Result: A Pinot Noir That Stands Above the Rest
By sourcing fruit from Pisonsi’s prestigious Santa Lucia Highland Vineyards and working alongside Caroline’s expert hand, we’ve created a Pinot Noir that is both elegant and bold, a true reflection of its world-class origins.
Aromas that Draw You In
Complex and deep-black raspberries, dark ripe strawberries, spiced plum, and baking spices
A Palate That Delivers
Light-bodied with a layered mouthfeel
Silky tannins and mid-range acidity for balance
Tart cranberry, Bing cherry, red raspberry, and a whisper of underripe blackberry
Hints of oak and spice for depth
At 14.2% ABV, this Pinot Noir carries just enough weight while maintaining the grace and finesse that makes Pinot lovers swoon.
The Perfect Paring
This wine deserves food that lets it shine:
Smokey Texas BBQ – Our winemaker’s favorite? Mesquite-smoked pork ribs.
Salmon with beet & goat cheese salad – A vibrant and elegant pairing.
Mushroom pizza with red or cream sauce – Earthy flavors bring out the best in this Pinot.
Roast or smoked turkey – The holiday classic, made even better.
For the cheese lovers – Try it with Aged Comté, long-aged Gouda, Camembert, or Gruyère.
What to Avoid: Strong seafood (mussels, sea bass, anchovies), overly rich sauces, and spicy cuisine.
Now or Savor Later
Serve at 60°F for the best experience of its flavors. While this wine is stunning now, it has the structure to age gracefully for another 1-5 years.
A Partnership Built on Excellence
At Barons Creek Vineyards, we believe that great wine starts with great partnerships. By working with Caroline Davis and the legendary Pisoni team, we’ve crafted a Pinot Noir that embodies our dedication to quality, craftsmanship, and the pursuit of perfection.
This isn’t just another Pinot Noir-it’s a testament to the power of collaboration, science, and passion.
Pour a glass, taste the dedication, and experience the best of the best. Cheers!
